& EMDR Therapy
What is counselling?
Psychological counselling provides you with a professional and confidential space that helps you deal with difficult moments in life. It helps you develop a deeper awareness of your body, emotions, thoughts and behaviours, and better understand how your experiences earlier on in life are affecting your current relationships and behaviours. Counselling also provides you with the tools to change how you behave, feel and think. This enables you to live a freer and more meaningful life with a greater sense of wellbeing.
We adopt an integrative, holistic and embodied approach in our counselling. This means that we use different therapeutic approaches that respect our complexity as human beings while putting a lot of emphasis on the body. In our work together, we will look at which psychological approach fits best with how you are as a person and with what you’re bringing to the session. However, we will also use other approaches to help stretch your psychological abilities and so become a more integrated and resilient human being. You can read more about the different approaches we use further down.
What is EMDR therapy?
One of the approaches we often use in our work is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy. This is a psychological treatment that targets the way our mind processes information and is very helpful when dealing with the impact of psychological trauma. By using tapping or moving your eyes from side to side, EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories and properly store them in long-term memory. This reduces the distress that those memories cause in everyday life. The video below provides some more information about EMDR therapy.
Some areas that counselling and EMDR therapy can help with
Main psychological approaches we use
Body-focused therapy involves putting a specific emphasis on using the body to deepen one’s awareness of oneself and bringing about change. As much as intellectual understanding is important, our mind can be both a help and a hinderance at times. Instead, by being grounded primarily in our body, we can heal and develop in a more holistic and effective way.
Psychodynamic counselling is based on the understanding that patterns of behaviour and relationships that we experience when we’re young have a strong impact on how we behave and relate as adults. As children, we also had to develop ways of protecting ourselves from painful or difficult aspects of ourselves and our life. However, we often get stuck with these defences as adults and so they’re no longer helpful. Using psychodynamic counselling we increase the awareness of these internal conflicts, safely experience the feelings which are causing you difficulties and begin to resolve those conflicts.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) aims at understanding and changing behaviour and thought patterns that we have developed over time and that are now unhelpful for us. In CBT we look at our thinking processes and explore how they link with how we behave and feel. CBT often includes in-between session tasks to help you further your self-awareness and change between sessions.
Humanistic counselling focuses on our ability to solve our own problems because we strive to fulfil our potential as human beings. When this potential is hindered or stifled by painful life experiences, we experience a decrease in our wellbeing. Humanistic counselling helps identify and remove these obstacles through the non-judgemental and accepting relationship that is created during counselling.
What happens during counselling and EMDR therapy sessions?
We will initially have a free brief call for us to better understand your needs and to see whether we’re the right fit for you. There’s no obligation on your side to decide anything during this call.
If we decide to start some counselling or EMDR therapy together, we will set a date for our first session. This first session is a bit different to the ones that follow because we will need to gather some information about your life story. You don’t need to prepare anything from your side. This initial session also serves as an opportunity for you to be able to reframe where you’re at in this moment in life in relation to your life story.
During the sessions that follow, what we do depends on what you bring to the session and the reason why you came for counselling or EMDR therapy in the first place. Some sessions will consist more in you talking about an aspect of your life, exploring it in a non-judgemental and safe place. During other sessions we will dig deeper into what might be causing or maintaining the difficulties you’re encountering. Other sessions will include more exercises to increase your self-awareness, process traumatic or difficult memories and help bring about change. Sometimes, you might also be given some work to do between sessions. This is all done in a collaborative way and there’s no obligation to engage in what is being suggested. However, you will also be challenged to allow yourself to grow further!
What we offer you
We are based in Berlin and offer online counselling and EMDR therapy. This means that you can easily plan the session around your schedule and choose to be in a place that suits you best. It also means that you can also have sessions when you’re away.
We do our utmost to offer you an empathic, safe and non-judgemental space as well as the professional expertise and experience that are needed to help you deal with the difficulties you’re encountering. Awareness and respect of diversity is central to our practice. We adopt a culturally competent, sex-positive and LGBTQIA+ affirmative approach in our work.
We are very aware of how important it is to be able to express yourself in your own language. We can use English, Maltese or Italian during our sessions. It’s also possible that you speak in French. However, it’s important that you have an understanding of English or Maltese as these are our main languages.

Cancellation and refunds
If you need to cancel a session, it is important to inform us at least 24 hours before the beginning of the session. Should you decide not to use all the hours that you purchased as a block, you will be refunded for the unused hours, less a 5% administrative charge.
Please note that I am not a member of the German health care system and cannot accept public health insurance.
